colours for every occasion!

September 15th, 2009

Oh happy! Heres a colour scheme! You could say its not so much a scheme, and more of one of everything. I think thats what I need for this. Changing the ratio of colours is gonna let me create all sorts of different images and styles, and mixing colours right up on the same box is gonna be nice too. One thing I think I want that I dont have here - a black and a white block, to use super sparingly.

Whats crackin off tho? These blocks look a little too shiny to me - almsost like they are in a nice puddle. Need to tweak that up.

blocks that look like little stickers

September 13th, 2009

Heres some look development! Working on shaders, I wanted a worn, painted woodblock feel. Building up the wood first, and then adding the paint on top with a mask! The two layers are both mental ray mia_x materials, which are super great. I found a really nice way to blend them over on the djx blog, using his dj_mix texutre. Thanks!

The colours are temp, i’ve got it all plugged up now so the colours are just values I can tweak. I am really feeling the black void background though - makes the blocks look like little stickers. Now the shaders are at a first pass - I can get on with modelling some of the internals of the cubes.

Dots on a face

June 22nd, 2009

For no good reason whatsoever, i’m playing with a ramp shader, using textures rather than colour swatches. Theres aload of cool stuff you can do with it - despite it all looking a bit like a crap photoshop plug in.

Slap the shader on a projection node oriented to the camera and flatten it all out! Its as if you pressed a couple of buttons in photoshop rather than took an hour over it in maya! Here it is on a face!

Eye planets

Muckin abut with a shader to make some transparent blobutation planetery bodies or some noncence. Unfortunatly, as you can see, they look teeny tiny instead of mahusiv like I thought it might. Oh well, it was fun drinking a cup of tea while this rendered!

woop! po fella! Oviously I had to bung the translucent plastic shader on this thing, chuck a few lights behind his head, and watch Goldfinger while the computer popped this out!

making some more bobobobobobob

January 12th, 2009

Haven’t been doing much recently, so I mucked about making this translucent plastic shader! Its pretty simple right now, but does the job just about! Needs a little pluck, but I reckon I can work with it.

I slapped it on this old pinball bumper. The trick seemed to be to use MR Physical lights and FG with a rammed up trace depth for the reflections and refractions. Its a bit slow considering its not amazing, but I can bring this up to snuff in post if it was lit better. Oh I didnt use photons, so no coloured lights passing through the material.

This is mia’s!

October 26th, 2008

Well! I’ve changed all the blinns into holler - this is mia’s! I’ve gamma corrected all the colour sploges and am getting well better colour straight out the renderer. Metals are more difficult to control, but they’ll be getting the wragglin soon. I deeply regret not posing this model up into a stupid dancey pose or crap sprint, because now i’m doomed to spend today rendering out just that useless trash. Still, I can read a book or brush the pegs while I wait.

hobo lighting

Slapping the colours finally back on the rigged model(which has still got a cold). These are just crappy maya blinns right now with some hobo ligthing and pop reflection.  What to do with those crappy arms! Can I be bothered to redo them, or shall I just rip them off so he looks like a giant Chuba Chup?

Face in arty black and white! Ignore please!

August 24th, 2008

Heres the head from the familar angle with mia shaders all over it. Does a much better job of easily balancing highlights. All the settings are just defaults. I made it black and white because I’ve mucked up the colour. I sucked out the lens too to make his face look like a tiny dot in a huge hat. I like it!

Why is this blog page pink?

February 20th, 2008

See! I’ve plopped the colours onto the render rig and it’s not too shabby! Need to tweak it some more, slap it in a background maybe? and sort out the really off specular and reflection mix going on over the top. Look at thoose eyes for example - WAY to shiny right now. Why! It looks almost like T2 when hes transforming. Chrome dancer. I’m beginning to wish I hadn’t made these blog pages bright pink. Kinda clashes with everything!
