Quick arm poses

July 31st, 2006

Ok, so this is as far as i`ve got, and i`m giving it a rest now until i`m further along with the other parts of the film. Heres a quick render I did of the arms posed up. Catch you later! And heres a bit of an ambient occlusion test.

Elbow pleasure

July 30th, 2006

For your entertainment here is a stupidly big pic of the arm showing the elbow pad and the perfect reflections. It was a nightmare to keep the surfaces flush across the whole of the arm, but I cracked it! To do it I built the whole thing as one big NURBS surface, using the trim tools to get the correct shapes. Then I converted them all to polygons, extruded the edge to give them depth and beveled the lot! One day i`ll do a quick animation of it and post the movie! (and one day i`ll attach the thumb!)

Metal - See it shine!

July 28th, 2006

I was chuffed with the metal on this render! Its a HDR map with no lights in the scene at all! The metal is just a maya blinn with really low eccentricity and really high specular roll off. That gives the metal a really smooth, ultra shiny look, that really picks up reflections along the bevels of the model. Those bevels took ages, so i`ve got to show them off!

You can see here how I plan to rotate the arm to simulate a human forearm twist. I`ll explain more on this later, but basically each section rotates just a little bit so the twist is spread out over the arm but the sillouette remains reasonably flush.

Phantasm IV

July 27th, 2006

My sweet Jesus! I swore this site wouldn`t turn into a bad joke, and here, three days after it began is an image so bad it made Our Lady of Galulope cry milk! It wouldn`t look out of place on the front cover of Phantasm IV! Oh it`s so spooky, it`s like the hands are reaching for YOU! Watch out world, here comes a film to rival one of Uwe Boll`s!

You might notice I used a mirroring technique in photoshop. Please don`t ask me to explain how I achieved that one!

Ladies fingers

July 26th, 2006

Ok, for this character i`m using the starting point of this arm I made a year ago to test a rigging idea I had. The shape isn`t right but i`ll definetly rip bits off and use them. I`ll post bits of it over the next few days so look right here!

Thats right! Its a hand and some fingers! Amazing as it seems, i`m quite proud of this model as it was my first attempt to use NURBS to keep the surface reflections really true. Look at the reflection on that finger! God be praised!
